Vocabulary Words
Cycle: something that happens over and over again in the same order
Water Cycle: a cycle in which water goes through stages and travels around the earth
Sun: the source of all energy; it drives the water cycle and provides food for plants and animals
Evaporation: the process by which liquid H2O (water) is heated and changes into H2O gas (water vapor)
Condensation: the process by which H2O gas (water vapor) is cooled and changes into a liquid.
Precipitation: the process by which water as a solid or liquid falls to the ground.
Accumulation: also called storage, the water that falls from the sky is stored in rivers, lakes and oceans
Rain: liquid water, when the water droplets or ice crystals become to heavy to remain in the air, they fall to the ground.
Snow: frozen ice crystals that fall from the air to the ground
Sleet: frozen ice crystals to liquid to frozen.
Hail: Raindrops that freeze into balls of hail.
Ecosystem: (Ecology+System) an environment where plants and animals live together
Reservoir: a holding area for water; some are made by building dams across rivers and streams to build up water.
Well: a deep hole in the ground where ground water can be pumped out for use
Water Supply: the amount of water we have on the earth available for use
Limited Resource: resources that cannot be renewed.
Water Conservation: to protect the quality and quantity of water on Earth
Conserve: to use something carefully so it isn’t used up
